Sicko

Saw Sicko tonight, Wow! People really get screwed in the US by the health insurance companies. It is really sad. This movie should make Americans angry. The richest country in the world, and the only country in the Western world without some form of universal healthcare. Even if you have insurance, there is a team of eggheads sitting at a desk in a cubicle somewhere trying to deny your claim. Any payment to the patient is viewed as a "medical loss" by the insurance company. I like how one guy that worked for one of the companies put it, "don't think that you fell through the cracks (in the system), it is the job of someone, somewhere to sweep you towards crack". An example given (of the many presented) would be the the woman in movie that had a $7000 claim approved only to have it reversed months later when someone, somewhere determined she had failed to disclose a yeast infection (irrelevant) she had several years earlier. A yeast infection! They determined she was untruthful in her application and went after her for repayment of the $7000.

Americans deserve better.
